In his essay “Of Tax Cuts and Those $10 Million Bat Mitzvahs” (The New York Times, 25 Feb 07, section 3, pg. 1) columnist Ben Stein begins his essay with an homage to the grounded-in-reality idealism of Martin Luther King.

“I read Marshall Frady’s awesome biography of Martin Luther King Jr. Wow, what that man went through. What Southern blacks have gone through. It is fortunate beyond belief that providence sent a man as great as Dr. King to redeem the soul of the nation.”

Bette Davis shines in this early 1950’s movie about an aging, once popular movie actress who finds herself jobless and bankrupt. Ms Davis displays her full array of acting skills, manifesting her great, intelligent talent.

From the night of 31 Jan 07. Yesterday morning I wrote out on a piece of paper my complete financial picture. I listed my modest income, all of the monies I have, my monthly bills, my debts. An article in the 07 Feb 07 Denver Post inquires in its headline: „Was Prince’s guitar a “malfunction“?  The article goes on to explain: In the sensitive post-wardrobe-malfunction world, some are questioning whether a guitar was just a guitar during Prince’s Super Bowl halftime show.

In The New York Times of 02 Feb 07 Fergus M. Bordewich writes an editorial essay called “History’s Tangled Threads,” as a response to recent controversy surrounding a plan for a New York City park honoring Frederic Douglass to create a stone replica of a purported Underground Railroad map quilt.

The Life and Times of Captain N. by Douglas Glover (1993. New York: Alfred A. Knopf) is an hallucinogenic novel of dreams.  "As it happens, I have dreamed a dream. It comes often, whenever I have a headache. When the pain fades, I fall asleep, or doze, and go into a gray world. I am building a house. I am up on the roof, tacking hand-split shingles. Margrethe and the children stand at the foot of the ladder, watching. No one lends a hand or says a word. My boy Oskar points and draws their attention to some aspect of my work. In her essay “Ghost in the Dream” which appears in The New York Times Magazine (18 Feb 07, pg. 62) Dinah Lenney shares with readers disturbing aspects of the world of dreams. “The night after I learned my father was missing, my 4-year-old son, Jake had a nightmare. I didn’t know yet that my father had been robbed and stabbed, left to die on the banks of the Hudson by a couple of teenagers. It would be almost three days before his body was found in the rain, curled onto its side, covered in dirt and blood.”

The following dreaming appeared in today’s paper ("Ask Amy," Amy Dickson. The Denver Post, 21 Feb 07, pg. 8F) under the headline: MAN MUST INTERPRET DREAM ABOUT BEING WITH ANOTHER MAN.  Dear Amy: I am a male in my early 20s.  I have never had any sexual interest in men.  Even though my relationships with women have been few and far between, I have always been attracted to them.
