Sleep Dream.  A gathering at a house. In one room, a very peculiar looking fellow appears. He has a large, square head (reminiscent of Down’s Syndrome), Latvian gray hair, pale skin. He’s in his 30’s. With a peculiarly blank and unreadable expression, he has an air of malevolence about him. He makes eye contact with no one. I sense he’s Trouble. He goes into the next room, where there are only women sewing. He grabs an item of clothing, a shirt, I believe, out of a woman’s hand. The crowd is surprised, but polite, tittery.  read more »

Sleep Dream.  A suburban street, in front of a school. A junior high? A beautiful, ebony-skinned girl, a student, and three or four of her friends are walking toward the curb. Her broad face is radiant, her dark eyes glow. Her father is waiting for her in a car. Seeing him, Fear appears in her face, Terror. Watching, I know that he abuses her. She tries to avoid him. He grabs her arm and yells ar her: „Goieri! Get in the car!‘ Goieri winces and gets in. She is not cowed by her father’s violence.

Jury duty yesterday. I was at the City & County Building from 08:30 to 18:30!  There were 50 of us who got called right off the bat to be examined and culled, for a jury of 12 + 1 needed for a murder trial. (An African-American man, in his late 30’s or early 40’s, I’d say, is to be tried for the murder of his wife and attempted murder and assault on another woman.) All criminal trials, it turns out, are “The State vs” trials, with the burden on the prosecuting attorneys, to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the guilt of the charged person.  read more »

Sleep Dream.   Out in the mountainous countryside, by a bouldered stream. A young woman is held hostage by a man. She is 30’ish, white, reminds me of Naropa’s Corinne. Naïve and femalely helpless. The man is less clear: physically powerful, dark haired, blue collar. On a large, flat boulder, he is tormenting her, physically and emotionally. She is fearful, crying. She does nothing to fight back or escape. I am like a camera, seeing, but not an embodied presence. After several bashings of her, he has her as if mowing or gathering grasses on the rock, stooped over.  read more »
